Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Corinna Ascherson, the lady who sadly died in a fire on Rhyl Street this week.
The fire broke out at about 5:30pm on 8th March at 35 Rhyl Street, a council freehold property. Although the fire and ambulance service arrived promptly, they weren’t able to help the lady trapped in the building.
Cllr Bokth was on the scene in the evening to speak to residents, and we have been assured that all tenants affected have been offered alternative temporary accommodation.
A formal investigation is now underway, and there will no doubt be further discussion once we know exactly what happened and why. Tragic events like this are a shock for the whole community, and all our thoughts are with Ms Ascherson’s family at such a very difficult time.
The Camden New Journal has more information, and tributes to Ms Ascherson’s life and work as a journalist.
